In the last match of the T20 series against the West Indies, Team India suffered a major setback. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar was injured in the third and final match at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday. Chahar was injured in the second over of the innings. He left the field with leg muscle pain while running in the run-up. Currently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not given any update on Chahar’s condition.
India won the last match of the series. Batting first, India were all out for 184. Deepak struck the West Indies early in the innings. Kyle Meyers took the wicket in his first over. Chahar then made a comeback in the third over, dismissing Shea Hope and giving Team India a great start. Hope, however, was injured after taking the wicket.
In the third over, as soon as he ran over the run-up for the last ball, his leg was hit by something and he stopped in the middle and went to the side without completing the run-up. Chahar appeared to be moaning in pain. He grabbed his right leg. In such a situation, immediately the Indian team physio Nitin Patel reached the ground and he tested Chahar. When the Indian bowler indicated that he could not bowl any more, he walked off the field.
Venkatesh Iyer completed his over. Before leaving the field, Deepak scored 15 runs in 1.5 overs and took 2 wickets. However, the BCCI has not yet given any update on the severity of Chahar’s injury. Whether he will be available for the T20 series against Sri Lanka, which starts on February 24, is something everyone is waiting for now.
